Midsummer… The Light has finally won over the Dark.
In Sweden we celebrate the light with a 3-4 day weekend, beginning thursday with dressing a midsummer pole with fresh birch leaves. On Friday – dinner table outdoors, rain or shine, with such things as herring, snaps (perhaps), strawberry shortcake and songs and cheers at the table.

This landscape is inspired by memories of summer evenings on an island in Lake Vanern, Varmland. Dark firs, birchtrees, a cool, distant sky and smooth granite rocks, scoured by the last ice age, 10 000 years ago. Scents of the forest awaken together with sounds of wildlife, and the rocks are shimmering in various violets as the brief night is approaching…
