The Old Couple
65 x 54 cm/25.6 x 21.25″©Christina Rahm Galanis – 2001 . . An old branch from an oak tree stood leaning against the wall.
It cast a shadow that created an interesting pattern. Instead
of painting the wall behind the branch and its shadow realistically, I gave them a blue sky as a background. .
They remind me of an old couple, fused together by eons of time, inseparable by each other’s shadow and light.

Then I needed to lighten up a bit, so I wanted to make a ‘moving image’ and tried to paint the poppies to make them follow me. .
They got some life I think, in spite of their dry appearance. . . . .
